Measure the stretch percentage on your pattern. Measure all edges where the elastic will be placed and divide the number of cm by 15% to calculate the correct length of elastic. Write this calculation on your pattern so you know what stretch percentage you used. If the picot is too tight, you know to use a 10% stretch percentage instead of 15% next time.
STEP 2
Place a pin in the picot and place it next to the ruler. Place a pin on the length you just calculated.
STEP 3
Pin the picot at the beginning and end of the edge.
STEP 4
Stretch the picot together with the lace or lycra, so that everything is even, and pin in place.
STEP 5
Sew the picot with a zigzag stitch, as close as possible to the decorative edge.
